Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), May 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a rise in day temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next 3-4 days in Odisha amidst ongoing thunderstorm activity.
This surge is attributed to increased dry northerly-northwesterly winds following the landfall of Severe Cyclonic Storm Remal, which crossed the Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts between Sagar Islands and Khepupara with wind speeds of 110 to 120 kmph, gusting up to 135 kmph.
While coastal areas like Balasore, Chandbali, Bhadrak, and Paradip experienced rains under Remal’s influence, interior regions observed a rise in temperatures as the storm absorbed moisture from the air, potentially leading to thundershower activity across the state.
The IMD forecasts light to moderate rain/thundershower in several districts on specific dates, including Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada on May 27. Similar weather is expected in other districts on subsequent days, with Monsoon onset predicted over Kerala within the next 5 days.
As Remal weakens into a cyclonic storm and later a deep depression, heavy rainfall warnings persist for coastal and eastern districts of Gangetic West Bengal, adjacent to Bangladesh, as well as several other states, until May 28.
