Illicit Liquor Raids in Nabarangpur: 5 Arrested, Large Seizures Across Villages
Nabarangpur district authorities carried out a series of coordinated raids on Wednesday, targeting illegal liquor traders across several villages.
Acting under the directives of District Collector Dr Maheshwar Swain and Excise Superintendent Pratap Kumar Das, Excise Inspector Dillip Kumar Rath supervised the operations with precision.
The crackdown began in Semiliguda village, where Excise Officer Ashesh Kumar Nayak led a team that seized 19 litres of country liquor from a woman trader.
Shortly after, another raid in Janaki Nagar resulted in the confiscation of 17 litres of hand‑brewed liquor. Officials also destroyed 100 litres of fermented wash and 20 litres of hot wash at the site.
Further raids in Fataguda village under Khatiguda police limits uncovered 17 litres of hand‑brewed liquor from another woman trader.
n Khanduguda village, 22 litres of illicit liquor were seized, while in Modinayakguda under Kodigaon police limits, officials confiscated 24 litres of country liquor from a male accused.
All five individuals were arrested and produced in court.
The operations were supported by excise sub‑inspector Keelada Bhaskar and staff members Ranjit Jani, Risima Kumari Suna, Sudhanshu Sekhar Bagh, Umesh Harijan, Sadashiv Bhatra, and Akram Khan.
Authorities emphasised that the raids reflect the administration’s commitment to curbing illegal liquor trade in the district, which poses both social and health risks to local communities.
