Illegal Gun Racket Busted in Balasore: Three Arrested, Four Firearms Seized

Balasore, Odisha — In a decisive crackdown on illegal arms circulation, Balasore police dismantled a gun trafficking network operating in the Remuna area on November 5.

Acting on a tip-off, Nilagiri SDPO Pramod Mallik led a raid on the residence of Santanu Kumar Das, alias Muna, in Nianbag village. The operation resulted in the seizure of one air gun, one country-made pistol, and live ammunition.

Muna, identified as the prime accused, failed to produce any firearm licenses and was taken into custody. Subsequent investigation revealed that he had supplied weapons to Manoj Kumar Bhuyan of Achyutpur and Amitabh Dwivedi of Diha Remuna.

Both individuals were arrested, and their firearms confiscated.

During a press briefing, Additional SP Debjyoti Das confirmed suspicions of a supply link to Bihar, suggesting a wider network behind the Balasore arms trade. Police have registered a case under Section 25 of the Arms Act (Case No. 200/4.11.25), and the accused have been produced in court.

The raid team included SI Subash Chandra Mallik, ASI Dhirendra Prasad Mohanty, and several constables and home guards. Authorities have pledged tighter surveillance across Balasore to curb rising criminal activity and illegal arms trafficking.
