IIT Bhubaneswar Partners with GMRICS to Power Mining Research

IIT Bhubaneswar has entered into a five‑year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Mineral Research Industrial Consultancy Society (GMRICS), established by GMDC, to strengthen research, education, and training in mining and earth sciences.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Dinakar Pasla, Dean of Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy at IIT Bhubaneswar, and Dr D. K. Sinha, CEO of GMRICS/GMDC.

Under the collaboration, both institutions will jointly pursue research projects in geology, mineral engineering, analytical chemistry, and geophysical surveys.

Students will benefit from industrial training, internships, and field‑based research opportunities.

The partnership also includes specialised lectures, demonstrations, and knowledge exchange programs with experts from GMRICS, iCEM (International Centre of Excellence in Mining Safety and Automation), and iCREATE.

A key focus will be the exploration of critical mineral deposits in Gujarat and Odisha, including rare earth elements at Ambadongar and copper–lead–zinc reserves at Ambaji.

This initiative is expected to enhance industry–academia engagement, promote sustainable mineral development, and build human resource capacity in mining and earth sciences, aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
