IIT Bhubaneswar and Survey of India Join Hands to Advance Geospatial Innovation
Bhubaneswar, November 26, 2025 — The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha & Chhattisgarh Geo-Spatial Directorate of the Survey of India (SoI) to strengthen collaboration in geospatial research and innovation.
The agreement, signed on November 25, brings together the Survey of India’s technical expertise in mapping and geospatial science with IIT Bhubaneswar’s research strengths in remote sensing, geo-dynamical studies, climate science, and earth sciences.
Prof. Dinakar Pasla, Dean (Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy) of IIT Bhubaneswar, and Shri Asish Kausal, Director of the Odisha & Chhattisgarh Geo-Spatial Directorate, formalised the MoU in the presence of senior officials and faculty members, including Dr Raj K. Singh, Dr Ashim Sattar, Shri Bharat Kumbhar, and Shri Shakil Alam.
The collaboration will facilitate joint research projects, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building initiatives through workshops, lectures, and conferences.
By harnessing advanced mapping technologies and geoinformatics, the partnership aims to address pressing challenges in climate science, sustainable development, and earth system studies.
This initiative is expected to bolster India’s leadership in geospatial research while contributing to national development goals and fostering innovation in emerging technologies.
