IIM Sambalpur Makes History with Launch of First Undergraduate Programs in AI and Public Policy
In a landmark move, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur has officially welcomed its inaugural cohorts for two pioneering Bachelor of Science (B.S.) programs—Data Science & Artificial Intelligence and Management & Public Policy.
This marks the first time an IIM has ventured into undergraduate education, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s vision for multidisciplinary, industry-aligned learning.
The launch event, held at the scenic Sambalpur campus, brought together 178 students from over 20 Indian states, including remote regions like Lakshadweep.
Admissions were secured via JEE Main for the AI track and CUET UG for the Policy track, with top scores and percentiles reflecting the programs’ prestige.
The ceremony featured keynote addresses from industry leaders and dignitaries, including Ratnesh Jha of the UN Global Compact Network India, Amit Sareen of Accenture, and Anjan A of North Trust. Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, emphasised the institute’s commitment to nurturing holistic leaders through a curriculum focused on intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual development.
These four-year degrees aim to produce ethical innovators and policy architects capable of tackling global challenges.
With a strong gender balance and academic excellence, the programs are expected to set a precedent for other top management institutions across India.
