IED Blast in Saranda Forest Claims CRPF Officer’s Life

Chaibasa (Jharkhand) Orissa Today, Mar 23: A tragic incident occurred during an anti-Naxal operation in the Saranda forest region, where an IED blast claimed the life of CRPF Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar Mandal. Another officer, Partha Pratim Dey, was injured in the explosion. The incident took place in the remote Marangponga area under the Chhotanagra police station on Saturday.

The injured personnel were immediately airlifted to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment. Unfortunately, Sub-Inspector Mandal succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Saranda forest, notorious for its dense terrain and Naxal activity, remains a hotspot for Maoist operations. Security forces continue to face challenges as Naxals have strategically planted IEDs across the region to target them.

Joint search operations by the district police and CRPF are being carried out to dismantle Naxal setups and recover hidden IEDs. Authorities have intensified efforts to ensure the safety and security of the area amidst the persistent threat of extremist activities. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by security personnel in their mission to restore peace in the region.
