Homebound Selected as India’s Oscar Entry for 2025 | Neeraj Ghaywan’s Film Gains Global Acclaim
In a proud moment for Indian cinema, Neeraj Ghaywan’s poignant drama Homebound has been officially selected as India’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
The announcement was made by the Film Federation of India (FFI) in Kolkata on September 19, 2025.
Produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Homebound features a stellar cast including Vishal Jethwa, Ishaan Khatter, and Janhvi Kapoor.
The film is slated for release on September 26, 2025, and has already garnered international acclaim, having impressed audiences at the Cannes Film Festival and securing the second runner-up spot for the People’s Choice Award at TIFF 2025.
The Oscar journey begins with the shortlist announcement on December 16, 2025, followed by final nominations on January 22, 2026.
The grand ceremony will take place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
India has been submitting films to the Oscars since 1957, with last year’s entry Missing Ladies by Kiran Rao earning praise despite not making the final cut.
All eyes are now on Homebound, which promises to be a strong contender and a beacon of India’s cinematic excellence on the global stage.
