Hirakud Gang War Turns Deadly: Kalu Bahadur Killed, Seven Arrested
Sambalpur, November 5, 2025: A brutal gang clash in Hirakud late Monday night claimed the life of notorious criminal Kalu Bahadur and left his associate Satyaranjan Dhal critically injured. The attack, believed to be a revenge killing, has sent shockwaves through the region.
According to police reports, Kalu and Satyaranjan were ambushed while riding a motorcycle from Store Chhak to Durgamandir Chhak.
The assailants struck Kalu with a brick, causing both men to fall. The gang then launched a frenzied assault using sharp weapons and continued to bludgeon Kalu’s head with bricks, leading to his death on the spot due to excessive bleeding.
Satyaranjan, who attempted to resist, was also attacked and is currently undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla.
Police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the murder: Sani Behera (33), Pratap Behera (24), Jaynarayan Mishra (24), Raj Barik (22), Sridhar Prasad (25), Sameer Behera (21), and Sahil Behera (23). Weapons, including knives and bhujali,s were recovered from the accused.
Investigators believe the motive was retaliation for the earlier murder of Banti Behera, brother ofthe accused Sani Behera, allegedly by Kalu’s gang. Tensions between the two groups had been escalating since that incident.
All seven accused were produced in court today. Police continue to probe the case and are closely monitoring the condition of the injured survivor.
