Heavy Rain Alert Issued Across Odisha from August 12 as Bay of Bengal System Intensifies

Bhubaneswar(OT Webdesk): The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Odisha starting August 12, following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

The system is expected to intensify into a cyclonic circulation by August 13, triggering widespread showers across the state until August 17.

According to IMD official Manorama Mohanty, Asika in Ganjam district recorded the highest rainfall of 90 mm in the past 24 hours.

Puri is forecast to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, while districts including Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar are also likely to be impacted.

A yellow warning has been issued for 20 districts, including Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.

Thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to accompany the rains, raising concerns over waterlogging and flash floods in low-lying areas.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and follow official updates.

District administrations have been advised to activate emergency response protocols to mitigate risks during the rainy spell.
