Heavy Rain Alert: IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Five Odisha Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in five districts of Odisha—Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Mayurbhanj.
The showers are being triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to weaken later today but continues to bring widespread rain.
Alongside heavy rainfall, strong winds ranging between 30 and 40 km/h are likely to lash these districts. Recent IMD data shows Jashipur in Mayurbhanj recorded 40.4 mm of rain, Champua in Keonjhar 29.4 mm, R. Udayagiri in Gajapati 28.2 mm, Bhubaneswar 17.6 mm, and Patangi in Koraput 11.2 mm.
Several towns, including Baripada, Paradip, Daringbadi, and Balangir, also witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
Authorities have urged farmers, fishermen, and residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious and avoid risky outdoor activities until conditions improve.
