Hash Oil Worth Rs 8 Crore Seized in Odisha’s Malkangiri: Police Foil Smuggling Attempt

In a landmark anti-narcotics operation, Malkangiri Police seized 60 litres of hash oil—also known as liquid cannabis—valued at approximately Rs 8 crore from the Chitrakonda Swabhiman area. This marks the first such recovery of hash oil in Odisha.

Acting on a tip-off received around 11:30 AM, a day patrol team from Chitrakonda Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Limai Charan Panda, intercepted eight suspects near the Esar Chowk Sal forest.

The individuals, allegedly preparing to transport the contraband to Andhra Pradesh, fled into the dense jungle upon spotting the police, abandoning eight motorcycles and a white plastic bag containing the illicit substance.

The seizure was conducted in accordance with legal protocols, and a case has been registered under Sections 20(b)(ii)(c), 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act (Case No. 213/2025). Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the fugitives.

Superintendent of Police Vinod Patil emphasised the significance of the bust, citing the growing challenge of drug trafficking in border regions like Malkangiri, which shares boundaries with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Additional SP Rashmi Ranjan Senapati and SDPO Pradosh Pradhan were also present during the briefing.

This operation underscores the police’s intensified efforts to curb narcotics smuggling in Odisha’s vulnerable border zones.
