Gram Panchayat Peon Job Hoax: Odisha Govt Files FIR Against Fake Letter

The Odisha Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department has issued a stern warning after a forged letter announcing the creation of a “Gram Panchayat Peon” post went viral on social media.

The fake document, dated November 24, 2025, claimed a monthly salary of Rs 13,160 and carried a fabricated reference number (PR-PADM-PG-064-2025/4232).

Officials confirmed that the letter did not originate from any government source and was a complete forgery.

The department has escalated the matter to the Cyber Crime Cell, where a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed to trace the origin and perpetrators behind the hoax.

District Collectors, Block Development Officers, District Panchayat Officers, and Gram Panchayat staff have been instructed to ignore the letter and not act upon its claims.

Authorities emphasised the growing challenge of misinformation in administrative matters, warning the public to remain cautious and verify official announcements before responding to job-related claims.

The government reiterated its commitment to transparency and promised swift action against those responsible for spreading the fake letter.

This incident highlights how digital misinformation can exploit unemployment concerns in rural areas, underscoring the need for vigilance in the age of viral content.
