Governor Calls for Resilient Odisha on Harekrushna Mahtab’s 125th Birth Anniversary

Cuttack, October 18: In a stirring tribute to Utkal Keshari Dr Harekrushna Mahtab on his 125th birth anniversary, Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati urged citizens to embrace resilience, innovation, and inclusive development to build a self-reliant and united Odisha.

Speaking at Sarala Bhawan in Cuttack, the Governor emphasised that Mahtab’s life was not merely a historical account but a living message of purpose and courage. “Each chapter of his journey inspires us to live with vision and integrity,” he said.

Dr Mahtab, born into privilege, chose a path of sacrifice by renouncing his zamindari and joining the freedom struggle.

His legacy includes pivotal contributions such as establishing Bhubaneswar as the state capital, initiating the Hirakud Dam project, and promoting industrial and educational growth.

The Governor also highlighted Mahtab’s intellectual and cultural impact through his publications The Prajatantra and Jhankar, which awakened public consciousness and celebrated Odisha’s linguistic and cultural heritage.

The event, organised by Sarala Sahitya Sansad, featured addresses by Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, Prof. Kharabela Mohanty, and President Pravakar Swain.

Former Chief Secretary Sahadeva Sahoo delivered the welcome note, while Prof. Niranjan Tripathy proposed the vote of thanks.
