Government Cracks Down on Price Surge Amid Cyclone Concerns

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: As Cyclone Montha looms over Odisha, the state government has intensified its vigilance on vegetable prices in Bhubaneswar, assuring citizens that consumer exploitation during this period will not be tolerated.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra stated that strict action will be taken against black marketing and profiteering. “No one will be allowed to exploit consumers during the cyclone. We are fully aware of the situation and will act decisively,” he said.

Officials have been instructed to conduct market inspections and respond swiftly to any violations. The minister emphasised that Cyclone Montha is unlikely to cause major damage and urged the public not to panic.

The government aims to stabilise the market and shield consumers from opportunistic traders. “We are committed to ensuring fair pricing and protecting citizens from undue hardship,” Patra added.

This statement comes amid reports of sharp price hikes in essential vegetables across the capital, prompting public concern and media scrutiny.
