Gopalpur gangrape TI parade

Berhampur,(OT Webdesk) – June 21, : In a major breakthrough in the Gopalpur gangrape case that shook Odisha, the 20-year-old survivor identified six of her alleged assailants during a Test Identification (TI) parade at Berhampur Central Jail on Friday evening.

The process was overseen by a judicial magistrate and included the survivor’s male companion, who witnessed the incident.

According to Crime Branch sources, officials are seeking court approval to conduct a similar procedure involving four minors also implicated in the crime.

The identification sets the stage for an intensified probe, with investigators planning to take the six adult suspects into remand for further interrogation.

The incident occurred late Sunday on Gopalpur beach, where the survivor was allegedly attacked by three men from a group of ten.

Odisha DGP YB Khurania labelled the assault a “Red Flag” crime and promptly transferred the case to the CID-Crime Branch.

So far, ten individuals have been apprehended, including the four minors. While the adults were remanded to judicial custody earlier this week, the juveniles were sent to correctional homes.

Meanwhile, medical examinations are underway to verify the age of the minors as required under juvenile justice norms.

This development marks a turning point in the investigation, signalling quicker judicial proceedings in the high-profile case.
