Gold and Silver Prices Surge Sharply in Bhubaneswar—Jewelry Buyers Feel the Pinch

Bhubaneswar: The glitter of gold is getting costlier by the day. Over the past 10 months, gold prices have surged by nearly Rs 40,000 per 10 grams, with the current week alone witnessing a jump of Rs 3,692.

According to the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), gold prices rose from Rs 1,13,262 on September 27 to Rs 1,16,954 on October 4.

Silver has mirrored this upward trend, climbing Rs 7,510 per kilogram in the same week—from Rs 1,38,000 to Rs 1,45,610. Since the beginning of 2025, silver prices have increased by over Rs 59,000 per kilogram.

In Bhubaneswar, 24-carat gold now hovers around Rs 1,19,400 per 10 grams, up from Rs 77,560 at the start of the year. Even 22-carat gold has seen a steep rise, reaching Rs 1,09,450 from Rs 71,110.

With GST and labour charges added, jewellery purchases are becoming increasingly unaffordable for the average consumer.

Experts attribute the surge to aggressive gold buying by central banks and global economic uncertainty, particularly surrounding U.S. policy under President Donald Trump.

Analysts predict further price hikes in the coming months, making gold a volatile but attractive investment.
