Goa Nightclub Fire 2025: Cylinder Blast Kills 25, Safety Violations Exposed

Arpora, North Goa — A late-night blaze at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub turned tragic when a suspected gas cylinder explosion ignited the palm-leaf roofing, engulfing the venue within minutes.

The fire claimed 25 lives, including tourists and staff, while six others remain hospitalised in stable condition.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as panicked revellers rushed toward a narrow staircase leading to the kitchen, where several became trapped.

Rescue efforts were delayed due to the club’s remote location and single narrow access road, forcing fire engines to halt nearly 400 meters away.

Authorities confirmed that the nightclub was operating without a construction license, despite multiple demolition notices previously issued.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced arrests of the managers, FIRs against the owner and general manager, and a magisterial inquiry. “Whoever is found guilty will be put behind bars,” Sawant assured.

Political leaders across the spectrum expressed condolences, while opposition parties demanded accountability.

The Goa Congress called for CM Sawant’s resignation, citing “complete regulatory collapse.” Survivors and families of victims have spoken out, highlighting the devastating human toll of the tragedy.

The incident has reignited urgent debates over safety compliance, illegal constructions, and governance failures in Goa’s booming nightlife industry.
