Ganjam Boat Capsizes: Six Fishermen Safe, One Missing Amid IMD Warnings
Ganjam, — A fishing expedition turned tragic early Thursday morning when a boat carrying seven fishermen from Sananolia Nuagaon village capsized off the Podampeta coast due to turbulent sea conditions.
The crew had ventured out around 4 AM, despite prior warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) about squally winds and rough seas.
Six of the fishermen managed to swim ashore and are reported safe. However, one crew member, identified as A Kaleya, remains missing.
Search operations have been launched by marine rescue teams in coordination with the Indian Coast Guard, who are combing the area intensively.
The IMD had issued advisories cautioning against sea travel, citing wind speeds reaching up to 50 kmph and unstable conditions across the Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal.
Although the low-pressure system responsible for the disturbance has weakened, it continues to impact the region.
Local authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to weather advisories and have called for improved safety protocols and emergency preparedness for coastal communities dependent on fishing.
