Ganja Seizure in Malkangiri: Rs 80 Lakh Worth Hidden in Truck Chamber
In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Malkangiri Police seized 770 kg of ganja hidden inside a secret chamber of a container truck near Sorlukonda Barrage. Acting on a tip-off, Chitrakonda SDPO Pradosh Pradhan directed Orkel Police Station IIC Dhiren Pattnaik and SI Milan Bariha to inspect vehicles in the area.
The truck, which was reportedly carrying jute sacks, raised suspicion due to a faint smell of ganja. Upon thorough inspection, officers discovered a concealed compartment behind the driver’s seat containing 17 sacks of contraband.
Three individuals from Uttar Pradesh were arrested on the spot:
- Raj Bahadur (55) – Driver, from Ganda village, Chitrakoot district
- James Chauhan (45) – Helper, from Sahab Talab, Banda district
- Ritik Gupta (25) – Truck owner, from Palara village, Banda district
Investigating officer Ajit Singh Bariha confirmed the consignment was en route from Kamveda to Uttar Pradesh for high-profit resale.
The seized ganja is estimated to be worth over ₹80 lakh. Authorities are now analysing the suspects’ mobile phones to uncover the broader smuggling network and identify the kingpin. The accused were produced in court earlier today.
