From Darkness to Destiny: Visually Impaired Mahesh Panda Cracks OAS

In a powerful testament to grit and perseverance, Mahesh Panda, a visually impaired resident of Biruhanpada village in Jajpur district, Odisha, has successfully cleared the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) examination, securing the 300th rank.

Born blind, Mahesh nurtured a childhood dream of becoming a civil servant. Despite facing setbacks—failing twice in previous attempts—he remained undeterred. On his third try, he triumphed, proving that determination can overcome even the steepest odds.

By day, Mahesh worked as a school teacher in Athagarh to support his family. By night, he immersed himself in exam preparation, driven by purpose and self-belief.

His achievement not only marks personal victory but also sends a powerful message about inclusive opportunities and recognizing talent beyond physical limitations.

Mahesh, son of the late Laxmi Narayan Panda, now stands as a beacon of hope for aspirants across the state, especially those battling adversity. His story is a reminder that disability is not a barrier to excellence—it’s a challenge that can be conquered with resilience and resolve.
