Freight Train Derails in Koraput, Rail Services Hit
Koraput: Rail traffic on the Jagdalpur–Visakhapatnam route was disrupted late Monday night after a freight train derailed near Dumuriput in Odisha’s Koraput district.
At least two wagons went off the tracks while the train was en route from Jagdalpur to Visakhapatnam.
Railway officials immediately launched restoration work on a war footing. Accident Relief and Restoration Teams (ART) were deployed to rerail wagons and repair damaged tracks.
Senior officials from engineering, electrical, and track maintenance departments rushed to the site to supervise operations.
As a result of the derailment, the Jagdalpur–Visakhapatnam Night Express was diverted via Koraput.
While no injuries were reported, the incident caused significant disruption to passenger and freight services.
This marks another derailment in Odisha in recent weeks, following a similar incident at Rupsa station in Balasore district.
Though both accidents avoided casualties, they have raised concerns about railway safety and infrastructure reliability in the state.
Authorities have initiated safety assessments to prevent future disruptions.
