Drowning Tragedy Bhadrak

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 8: An FIR has been filed against a lifeguard and a trainer after a tragic incident where a four-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at Hockey Village near Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela, Odisha. The victim, a resident of Sector 9 locality, lost her life in the unfortunate event.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening while Sumeha Singh was attending a swimming training session with approximately 15-20 other students, supervised by her mother waiting nearby. After the class concluded, her absence prompted her mother to inquire about her whereabouts, initially being informed she might have gone to the restroom. Tragically, Sumeha was later discovered floating in the pool. She was immediately rushed to Ispat General Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Allegations have surfaced suggesting that the trainers present did not give adequate attention to the child, leading to the grievous outcome.

In a statement to the media, Sunny Singh, the father of the deceased, claimed that his daughter’s life jacket had loosened and become unfastened, yet no action was taken by the trainers to prevent the tragedy. “When I confronted the trainer responsible, he only apologized repeatedly,” he recounted.
