Four Stranded Odia Youths Safely Return from Thailand After Govt Intervention

Bhubaneswar: In a swift intervention, the Odisha Government successfully repatriated four Odia youths who were stranded in Thailand after facing withheld wages and hardships at a plywood company.

The youths—Jayanta Kumar Mallick, Hemanta Kumar Behera, Manaranjan Sahu, and Bijay Kumar Swain—had travelled from Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts in August 2025 seeking employment.

However, they soon encountered exploitation and appealed for help through social media.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed immediate action, coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Odisha’s Chief Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, the Directorate of Odisha Paribar, Labour & ESI Department, and local district administrations.

The four returnees arrived safely in Bhubaneswar and expressed gratitude to the government for its timely support.

Efforts are underway to bring back the remaining two youths still stranded in Thailand.

This initiative underscores Odisha’s commitment to safeguarding migrant workers and ensuring their welfare abroad.
