Four Maoist Cadres Lay Down Arms Before Kandhamal Police
Kandhamal, Odisha: In a significant breakthrough for security forces, four cadres of the CPI (Maoist) surrendered before Kandhamal Police, marking a major setback for extremist activities in the region.
The surrendered cadres include Ganga Kunjami alias Jiten (24), Muchaki Mase alias Sumitra (23), Chomali Kunjam alias Santila (21), and Bandi Madvi alias Malati (22).
All four were involved in multiple violent incidents across Odisha and Chhattisgarh, including encounters in Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Baliguda, and Tumudibandha.
During the surrender, the cadres handed over a cache of arms and ammunition, including one SLR rifle, two .303 rifles, a 12‑bore gun, 42 rounds of ammunition, two wireless sets, five booby traps, codex wire, explosives, Maoist uniforms, literature, and daily‑use items.
Police officials described the surrender as a “major blow to Maoist leadership and morale”, noting that the move will weaken extremist operations in Kandhamal and adjoining districts.
Under Odisha’s rehabilitation policy, the cadres will receive benefits including a reward amount of Rs 10.36 lakh, interim relief of Rs 25,000 each, housing under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, marriage incentives, skill development programmes with monthly stipends, health cards, and subsidised rations under PMGKAY and Antyodaya Anna Yojana.
Authorities assured that all benefits will be extended promptly to help the former cadres reintegrate into society with dignity and security.
