Forest Officials Nab Two for Illegal Wild Boar Hunt During Chhadakhai Festivities

November 7, 2025, In a swift crackdown on wildlife crime, forest officials arrested two individuals for illegally hunting and butchering a wild boar near the Mundeswar protected forest under Madhupur range in Harabhanga block.

The incident occurred around 7:30 PM on Thursday evening, coinciding with Chhadakhai celebrations.

Acting on a tip-off, a forest department team led by Range Officer Ashik Digal raided the site and apprehended Kapindra Majhi and Satya Behera, both residents of Raniganj village under Purunakatak police limits.

Officials seized 34 kilograms of butchered wild boar meat along with two axes and two knives used in the act.

The meat was sent for post-mortem before being disposed of, and a case was registered under Case No. 72/25-26. Both accused were produced in court following their arrest.

The operation underscores the forest department’s vigilance during festive seasons, when wildlife crimes often spike due to increased demand for bushmeat.
