Forest Department Cracks Down on Illegal Sawmills in Puri

In a decisive move against illegal logging, the Forest Department carried out simultaneous raids on six sawmills operating unlawfully in Tulashipur under the Nimapara block of Puri district.

Acting on a tip-off, officials discovered that the mills had been cutting timber from forest areas for commercial gain.

During the operation, authorities seized timber worth lakhs of rupees along with machinery such as cutting machines, belts, and other equipment.

Several truckloads of timber and vehicles, including tractors used for transport, were also confiscated.

Forest officials questioned the owners and workers present at the sites, while local residents welcomed the crackdown, noting that the illegal timber trade had been thriving in the region for years.

The department confirmed that similar raids will continue to curb illegal logging and strengthen forest conservation efforts across Odisha.

This operation marks a significant step toward protecting natural resources and deterring unlawful exploitation of forests.
