Cuttack, July 18(OT webdesk): The Crime Branch has intensified its investigation into the tragic death of 20-year-old FM College student, Soumyashree Bisi, by interrogating key eyewitness Jyotiprakash Biswal, currently recovering from severe burn injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Biswal, who sustained injuries while trying to rescue Soumyashree during her reported self-immolation attempt, was questioned by a two-member Crime Branch team in the hospital’s plastic surgery ward.
Officials consulted attending doctors before conducting an hour-long inquiry, aimed at reconstructing the sequence of events surrounding the incident.
Medical sources revealed that Biswal suffered critical burns to his face, hands, and lungs. His eyewitness account is expected to be pivotal in understanding the chronology and motive behind the tragedy.
However, public backlash has grown over the alleged delay in emergency response by local authorities.
Civil society activists and student organisations have questioned why medical aid took precious minutes, possibly impacting the final outcome.
In a heartfelt appeal, Biswal’s father, Sanatan Biswal, urged the Odisha government to extend financial and medical assistance to support his son’s treatment and recovery.
The probe continues as investigators await further forensic reports and hospital findings.
