Balasore, (OT Webdesk)– The flood crisis in northern Odisha intensified on Tuesday as the Subarnarekha River surged past the danger mark, inundating over 30 villages in Balasore district’s Bhograi block.

At 7:00 AM, water levels at Rajghat reached a perilous 10.83 meters, triggering widespread panic and disrupting lives across 15 panchayats.

Homes and roads are under water, standing crops have been destroyed, and thousands of villagers remain stranded with minimal access to food, shelter, or potable water. Kusuda village is among the worst-hit, reporting knee-to-waist-deep water levels, damaged homes, and growing frustration over delayed relief efforts.

“We have no drinking water, the roads have vanished, and nobody from the administration has reached us yet,” said a resident from Kusuda.

Meanwhile, the Jalaka River in Basta block has risen to 6.50 meters—just 9 centimetres short of the danger level—submerging parts of 10 additional villages.

With livestock and families reportedly marooned, the district administration claims it is monitoring the situation but has yet to issue a formal response or initiate large-scale rescue operations.

As heavy rainfall continues in the region, fears loom large over a worsening flood situation.

esidents are urging immediate government intervention to prevent a full-scale humanitarian crisis.
