Kendrapara, (OT Webdesk) — July 18, 2025: A severe flood crisis has engulfed Kendrapara district as the Kharasrota, Brahmani, and Kani rivers breached their banks following relentless downpours.
The deluge has submerged multiple villages across Rajnagar, Ali, and Pattamundai blocks, stranding thousands of residents and cutting off essential connectivity.
In Rajnagar block alone, nearly 30 villages are inaccessible, while 12 panchayats in Ali block report widespread inundation. Roads like Manpur-Gobindpur have vanished under nearly 7 feet of water, forcing locals to rely on boats for movement.
Floodwaters have penetrated homes, schools, and health centres, triggering fears of disease outbreaks and food insecurity. Agricultural lands are under water, raising alarms over crop losses.
District authorities have sprung into action with relief distribution, shelter setups, and rescue deployments backed by ODRAF, NDRF, and fire services. Embankment repair and connectivity restoration efforts are ongoing.
Officials estimate a 6–12 hour window for water levels to begin receding. In the meantime, concerns over clean drinking water and sanitation remain urgent.
