Final-Year college girl allegedly dies by self-immolation in Kendrapara
Bhubaneswar, Aug 6 (UNI) In a shocking incident, a final-year Plus III student allegedly set herself on fire inside her home in Kathiapada village under Pattamundai block in Odisha’s coastal Kendrapara district this morning.
The incident occurred while her parents were away.
According to reports, the victim’s parents found the house locked from the inside upon their return from a hospital visit.
Despite repeated calls, their daughter did not respond. Suspecting foul play, the father broke open the door and discovered his daughter lying inside, completely charred.
The victim’s father revealed that around six months ago, his daughter had gone to the Pattamundai police station to file an FIR against a youth with whom she had been in a relationship.
The relationship reportedly ended after the youth began blackmailing her by circulating obscene photographs.
However, the police allegedly refused to register her complaint and instead advised her to switch off her mobile phone.
It remains unclear whether the girl took the extreme step herself or if it was a case of murder. Her parents have expressed strong suspicion of foul play.
Taking serious note of the incident, Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania has directed the Kendrapara Superintendent of Police (SP) to visit the site immediately and ensure a prompt and thorough investigation.
The DGP has also sought a detailed report on the incident. Further details are awaited.
