Fertilizer Shortage Leaves Koraput Farmers in Crisis as Planting Season Peaks
Koraput, Odisha – September 2: A severe fertiliser shortage in Pattangi block of Koraput district has triggered widespread distress among farmers, many of whom have been queuing for weeks at the Pottangi LAMP centre without success.
With nearly 90% of the local population dependent on agriculture, the lack of essential inputs during peak planting season has pushed the community into desperation.
Despite favourable weather conditions, farmers are unable to proceed with sowing due to the non-arrival of fertiliser stock. The delay has forced many to abandon daily responsibilities, making repeated trips to the cooperative center in vain.
Local officials have cited logistical issues, but the lack of transparency and urgency has fueled frustration.
Residents are now demanding immediate intervention from the administration, accusing authorities of failing to meet basic agricultural needs.
As the crisis deepens, questions loom over how and when the government will act to restore supply and safeguard the livelihoods of Koraput’s farming community.
