Bhubaneswar(OT Webdesk): A 25-year-old fraudster from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Pradum Kumar, has been arrested for impersonating a Jindal Steel Pvt. Ltd. sales executive and defrauding a businessman of Rs 11 lakh.
The victim, Mahesh Kumar Singh, was searching for steel vendors online when he encountered a fake toll-free number falsely linked to Jindal Steel.
Posing as a legitimate sales executive, Kumar sent forged invoices with authentic branding to convince Singh to place an order for TMT steel.
Trusting the documentation, Singh transferred Rs 1.25 lakh via IMPS and Rs 10 lakh via NEFT/RTGS to a bank account controlled by the accused.
Upon investigation, authorities confirmed the account was registered under Pradum Kumar’s name. The Commissionerate Police arrested him on June 9 and seized a mobile phone allegedly used in the scam.
Officials have advised businesses to verify account details before making payments and to report suspicious transactions to cybercrime authorities.
