Fake Bomb Threats Disrupt Courts in Puri and Kalahandi
On March 9, 2026, judicial proceedings in Odisha were thrown into disarray after anonymous bomb threats targeted courts in Puri and Kalahandi.
In Puri, an email warning of explosives prompted immediate police action. Bomb squads and dog squads combed the premises but found no suspicious materials.
This marks the second such incident in Puri within weeks, raising concerns about repeated disruptions.
Meanwhile, the District Judge’s office in Kalahandi received a similar threat via email. Court work was suspended for the day as police conducted thorough searches.
These hoax threats follow a disturbing pattern, with earlier cases reported in Keonjhar and Sambalpur.
Lawyers expressed frustration and fear, urging authorities to strengthen cybersecurity measures to prevent further disruptions.
Officials confirmed that investigations are underway to trace the culprits behind the chain of fake emails.
