Er Ashok Basa Appointed to BIS Building Code Committee | Infrastructure Leadership

(OT Webdesk)In a significant development for India’s infrastructure governance, renowned civil engineer Er Ashok Basa has been inducted into the National Building Code Committee (CED 46) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

This apex body is responsible for revising and maintaining the National Building Code of India, which sets the benchmark for construction standards across the country.

Basa’s nomination underscores his deep expertise and longstanding contributions to civil engineering. He already serves on the Bridge Standards and Specifications Committee of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC), placing him at the intersection of two critical domains—building and bridge infrastructure.

The committee convened on August 25, 2025, at Manak Bhavan, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Er V. Suresh. The meeting focused on updating the building code to reflect modern construction practices, sustainability imperatives, and enhanced safety protocols.

Er Basa’s dual role is expected to bring greater coherence and innovation to India’s infrastructure standards, reinforcing his position as a key influencer in shaping the nation’s built environment.
