
En masse death of herd of 73 buffaloes triggers panic in Odisha village
Bhubaneswar. Aug 18 (UNI) Bloated carcasses of as many as 73 buffaloes were found floating in the Brahmani river near Eakamania village under Aul block in Odisha’s Kendrapara district even as scientists from State-run Animal Diseases Research Institute (ADRI) have begun investigation into the mysterious death of these bovine animals.
The death of the buffaloes was reported on Sunday afternoon. So far, carcasses of 44 buffaloes have been retrieved. On being informed, a team of veterinary officials and scientists from ADRI), Phulnakhara, Cuttack has reached the village to ascertain the exact cause of en masse death of buffaloes.
Such en masse death of buffaloes was never reported in these parts of the State, said the Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO), Kendrapara, Manoj Kumar Patnaik.
The bovine death will adversely affect the economy of the riverside village as cattle farmers here used to supply milk yield to urban areas and had attained a degree of self-sufficiency, said local residents.
