Elephant Tramples Man to Death in Angul, Brother Narrowly Escapes

Angul,  November 8, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded in the Karatapata forest section of Odisha’s Angul district when a lone tusker attacked two brothers grazing goats near the jungle.

The younger brother, Ninu Sahu (45), was trampled to death, while the elder, Krishna Sahu (60), narrowly escaped and alerted villagers.

The brothers, residents of Nandapur village, had ventured into the nearby forest early in the morning. According to eyewitnesses, the elephant charged suddenly, leaving Ninu with no time to flee.

Krishna managed to escape and rushed back to inform the community.

The incident has triggered widespread tension in the area, with locals expressing anger over the absence of forest officials at the scene.

Villagers allege that despite repeated elephant sightings in the region, no preventive measures were in place.

This is not an isolated case. Similar attacks have been reported in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts, where multiple lives—including those of children and the elderly—have been lost to elephant aggression in recent weeks.

Forest department officials claim they are monitoring elephant movements in vulnerable zones like Bijepur and Lanjigarh, but locals are demanding urgent intervention, including early warning systems and patrolling teams to prevent further loss of life.
