Elephant Attacks Claim Two Lives in Dhenkanal and Keonjhar Odisha
Two separate incidents of wild elephant attacks have claimed the lives of two individuals in Odisha, underscoring the growing human–elephant conflict in the state.
In Dhenkanal district, Charulata Nayak was fatally attacked near Amlabereni village in Kamakhyanagar block while heading to a pond with two other women.
The others managed to escape, but Charulata succumbed to the attack. Forest officials later retrieved her body and assured government compensation to the bereaved family.
In Keonjhar district, 27‑year‑old Kalia Nayak was killed in Raikala village after being attacked early in the morning while going to attend nature’s call.
Both incidents highlight the urgent need for measures to mitigate human–elephant conflict in Odisha, where such encounters have become increasingly frequent.
