Elephant Attack Leaves Two Dead in Ganjam

Ganjam district witnessed a heartbreaking incident when a wild elephant fatally attacked two villagers in Jalmeripalli under Fasiguda Gram Panchayat of Digapahandi Block.

The victims, identified as Gopinath Pradhan and Urmila Rout, were working in their fields when the elephant suddenly charged, leaving them with fatal injuries.

Forest officials from Bhismagiri rushed to the site and managed to drive the elephant back into the forest.

The incident has sparked grief and concern among villagers, who gathered at the scene to mourn the loss and demand stronger measures to prevent such recurring tragedies.

Experts point out that shrinking forest cover is forcing elephants closer to human settlements, leading to frequent conflicts that result in crop damage and loss of life.

The tragedy highlights the urgent need for sustainable solutions to balance wildlife conservation with human safety.
