Election Commission Rejects Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Deletion Scam Allegations as “Baseless
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has firmly dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent accusations of a nationwide voter deletion scam, calling them “incorrect and baseless.” The allegations, directed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, claim that automated software is being used to systematically remove voters from electoral rolls.
In a statement released Thursday, the EC clarified that no voter can be deleted online by the public and that all removals must follow due process, including notifying the individual and allowing them to respond.
Addressing Gandhi’s specific reference to Karnataka’s Aland constituency, the EC acknowledged that fraudulent deletion attempts were made in 2023 but emphasised they were unsuccessful.
An FIR was filed to investigate the matter, and the EC pointed to fair election outcomes in Aland—BJP’s win in 2018 and Congress’s win in 2023—as evidence of electoral integrity.
Gandhi, however, doubled down on his claims, alleging that the EC ignored 18 requests from Karnataka CID for technical details and vowed to release a “hydrogen bomb” of evidence. “They are defending the murderers of democracy,” he said.
The EC’s rebuttal sets the stage for a heated political showdown as the country gears up forthe upcoming elections.
