Edible Oil Prices Surge in Odisha Amid Global Conflict and Rising Demand
Bhubaneswar: Consumers across Odisha are feeling the pinch as edible oil prices continue to climb, driven by global supply disruptions and heightened local demand.
Since January 2026, the cost of refined and palm oil has risen by Rs 20–Rs 25 per litre, while mustard oil has remained relatively stable.
Traders attribute the surge to reduced imports caused by the ongoing Middle East conflict, which has disrupted supply chains.
At the same time, panic buying among households has intensified demand, further pushing prices upward.
Market experts warn that unless global tensions ease, Odisha’s edible oil market may continue to face volatility.
For now, consumers are adjusting their purchasing habits, often buying in bulk to hedge against future hikes.
