East Coast Railway Rolls Out 367 Special Trains to Tackle Festive Rush
In a bid to ease travel during the festive season, Indian Railways has launched nearly 12,000 special trains across the country. The East Coast Railway (ECoR), which serves Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, has added 367 special services to accommodate the surge in passenger demand.
ECoR General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal confirmed that 76 of these trains are already operational, benefiting over 78,000 passengers. “Under the guidance of the Railway Minister, over 12,000 special trains are being operated nationwide. The East Coast Railway has added 367 services to meet festive demand,” Funkwal stated.
Other zones contributing significantly include Northern Railway (1,919 trains), Central Railway (1,998), and Western Railway (1,501). East Central and North Western Railways have each introduced 1,217 additional trains.
To ensure safety and smooth operations, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and senior officials have been deployed at major stations. Over 900 CCTV cameras are actively monitoring platforms to prevent untoward incidents.
Looking ahead, Indian Railways plans to operate around 8,000 more trains during the upcoming festivals like Chhath Puja. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently reviewed preparations at New Delhi Railway Station, inspecting passenger amenities and crowd management systems.
Between October 1 and 19, Indian Railways operated 3,960 special trains, transporting over one crore passengers. ECoR continues to play a vital role in ensuring safe, reliable, and timely travel during India’s festive peak.
