
Durgapur Gang Rape Case: Survivor’s Friend Arrested, Total Accused Now Six
In a significant development in the Durgapur gang rape case involving an Odia medical student, police have arrested the survivor’s male friend, bringing the total number of accused to six.
According to Asansol-Durgapur Commissionerate Police, the friend was taken into custody based on a formal complaint filed by the survivor’s father, who suspected his involvement. The arrest follows allegations that the friend was present with the survivor on the night of the incident.
Commissioner of Police stated, “We have arrested six individuals so far, all of whom were present on the night the crime occurred. The survivor’s mobile phone, which was taken during the assault, has been recovered.”
Authorities have conducted a scientific reconstruction of the crime scene and collected forensic evidence. The clothing worn by the accused has been seized, and medical examinations have been completed, though reports are pending.
The survivor has been placed under 24-hour police protection. Investigators are also closely monitoring the arrested friend, who remains under questioning.
“We will not spare anyone involved,” the CP emphasised, assuring that the investigation will be thorough and impartial.
