Maha Shivratri 2026: Odisha Temples Under Tight Security as Devotees Gather
Bhubaneswar/Puri/Cuttack – Maha Shivratri 2026 is being observed across Odisha with immense devotion, drawing thousands of devotees to the state’s prominent Shaiva shrines.
The spiritual fervour is matched by elaborate security arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of rituals and darshan.
At Bhubaneswar’s iconic Lingaraj Temple, the sacred Mahadeepa ritual is scheduled for 10 PM. Authorities have deployed 41 platoons of police and 200 officers, with strict warnings against fake passes.
In Puri’s Loknath Temple, devotees are gathering for the traditional Jagar Yatra, supported by five platoons of police to manage the crowd.
Meanwhile, at Cuttack’s Dhabaleswar Temple, the Mahadeepa will be raised at 1 AM on February 16, with security forces ensuring peaceful observance.
Throughout the state, temples are resonating with chants, bhajans, and lamp lighting ceremonies.
The raising of the Mahadeepa symbolises the divine light of Lord Shiva, marking the culmination of the festival.
