Dhenkanal Ex-PEO Convicted in Bribery Case

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, has convicted Sri Trinath Sethy, former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Asarada Gram Panchayat under Hindol Block and acting PEO of Barada Gram Panchayat under Sadar Block, in a bribery case filed by Odisha Vigilance.

According to the charge sheet, Sethy was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a beneficiary in exchange for submitting a verification report for houses constructed under the Biju Pucca Ghara Yojana.

He was prosecuted under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The court sentenced Sethy to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to dismiss him from service as per rules.

This judgment underscores the state’s commitment to strict action against corruption and accountability in welfare schemes, sending a strong message against the misuse of public office.
