Dhenkanal Brown Sugar Seizure: Rs 60 Lakh Contraband Seized, Two Arrested, One Escapes

In a major breakthrough against the illicit drug trade, the Kamakhyanagar Excise team in Dhenkanal, Odisha, seized brown sugar valued at Rs 60 lakh during a raid at a rented house in Mundideuli Sahi.

Acting on a tip-off, officials arrested two individuals — Mamata Sahu and her son Akash Sahu — who were allegedly involved in the illegal trade.

However, another suspect, Bikash Sahu, managed to escape by scaling a wall, fleeing with additional contraband worth an estimated Rs 1 crore.

The accused, residents of Galu village under Kamakhyanagar police station, are believed to have been engaged in brown sugar trafficking for some time.

Authorities have launched a deeper investigation to uncover the extent of the network and connections behind the operation.

The seizure marks a significant step in curbing the spread of narcotics in the region, highlighting the vigilance of Odisha’s excise department in tackling organised crime.
