
Depression over Odisha likely to weaken into low-pressure area, heavy rains forecast for AP
Amaravati, Aug 19 (UNI) The depression over south coastal Odisha moved west-northwestwards at a speed of 11 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred at 0830 hours today over south interior Odisha, near latitude 19.8°N and longitude 84.0°E.
It was positioned about 50 km north-northwest of Daringabadi, 90 km east of Bhawanipatna, and 90 km southeast of Titlagarh in Odisha.
According to the Meteorological Centre, the system is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 12 hours.
The monsoon trough currently passes through Diu, Surat, Nandurbar, Amravati, the centre of the depression over south interior Odisha, and extends southeastward to the east-central Bay of Bengal, up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in north coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places across coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema over the next seven days.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places in north coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next five days, and in south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema over the next 48 hours.
Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are also forecast at isolated places in north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on August 21, 22, and 23.
During the last 24 hours, heavy rainfall was recorded in the Srikakulam district of coastal Andhra Pradesh. Rainfall occurred at most places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and at many places in Rayalaseema, the report added.
