Deogarh Teacher Detained for Alleged Misconduct with Students

Deogarh: A science teacher at Kundheigola High School in Deogarh district has been detained following allegations of inappropriate behaviour with girl students.

According to police, Tapan Kumar Mishra allegedly engaged in objectionable conversations, including asking students about “Valentine’s Week” and urging them to bring chocolates on “Chocolate Day.” The matter came to light after the mother of an eighth-grade student lodged a written complaint.

A case has been registered under the POCSO Act Section 12 and BNS Section 75. Authorities confirmed that Mishra will be produced in court after the victim’s statement is recorded.

The incident sparked outrage among parents and guardians, who locked the school gate and staged protests demanding strict action and the teacher’s transfer. Classes were disrupted as demonstrations continued.

The School Management Committee initially discussed the matter before forwarding it to the police.

District education officials stated that while they have not yet received a written complaint, an investigation has been ordered. Action will be taken if the allegations are substantiated.
