Dense Fog and Cold Wave Disrupt Daily Life in Kandhamal

Kandhamal district in Odisha continues to reel under biting cold and dense fog, with temperatures dipping below 15°C across several regions. The persistent winter chill has disrupted daily routines, particularly during the early morning hours.

According to official data, Daringbadi recorded a minimum temperature of 11.5°C, G. Udayagiri registered 12.4°C, while Phulbani reported 15°C. Despite cloudy skies offering slight relief, cold winds coupled with thick fog have made movement difficult for residents.

Visibility dropped sharply in many areas, with reports indicating that people could barely see beyond 5 to 6 metres. Vehicular traffic has been severely affected, raising concerns over road safety during peak morning travel hours.

The fog has continued to blanket parts of the district until around 10:00 a.m. daily, while temperatures fall rapidly after sunset, extending the cold wave late into the night.

In response to the harsh conditions, residents have begun gathering around bonfires for warmth. Others are stepping out for light exercise to stay active while adapting to the winter chill.

The combination of low visibility, cold winds, and extended fog has created a challenging environment for Kandhamal residents, impacting mobility, safety, and daily life.
