Dengue Prevention Intensifies in Bhubaneswar Amid Monsoon Concerns

Dengue prevention in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, June 10( OT Webdesk): As monsoon showers begin to drench the city, concerns over a potential dengue outbreak have escalated.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out a series of preventive measures to combat the mosquito menace, ensuring timely action against the disease.

Starting June 15, the BMC will launch regular fogging operations across the city, targeting mosquito breeding hotspots.

Additionally, the administration has announced a weekly “Dry Day” every Friday, urging citizens to eliminate stagnant water sources in and around their homes.

To bolster its workforce, BMC has increased the number of anti-larvae workers from 150 to 220, with additional staffing through outsourcing to strengthen efforts.

Health officials have also identified five hospitals for dengue sample testing, including Capital Hospital and AIIMS, ensuring accurate diagnosis through ELISA tests.

Authorities emphasise that public participation is crucial. Awareness campaigns will be conducted in schools and colleges, urging students and residents to proactively maintain cleanliness.

The municipal body has also ramped up chemical spraying and monitoring of high-risk zones to prevent an outbreak.

Last year’s dengue wave saw a high number of infections, prompting the BMC to adopt a proactive approach this season. Officials remain vigilant and call upon citizens to cooperate, reinforcing the city’s fight against dengue.
